LGBTIQ+ Elders Dance Club

The Substation, Melbourne (Kulin Nations)

A social dance project for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex elders (65+) to learn new dances, enjoy delicious catering and drinks, and socialise with other elders and allies.

About

LGBTIQ+ Elders Dance Club addresses ageism, homophobia, lesbiaphobia and transphobia by supporting the recreational, artistic and social rights of LGBTIQ+ elders, through creative actions.

LGBTIQ+ Elders Dance Club provides space where individuals can be themselves without fear of discrimination, a space where the gender and sexual identity is not only accepted, but celebrated. This project empowers elders to assert their social agency, value and worth within a mainstream and ageist paradigm, encouraging social connection and a place of belonging. LGBTIQ+ Elders Dance Club facilitate the physical, cognitive and emotional benefits of regular creative practice for this marginalised and pioneering generation.

LGBTIQ+ Elders Dance Club proudly strengthens the community and promotes elders visibility, all the while facilitating the physical, cognitive and emotional benefits that come from regular creative and physical practice.
